The great thing about sports is how quickly things can turn around. Just two years ago, Martin Nečas was being talked about as a talent, but he hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential and is waiting for a breakthrough season. There was even speculation that Carolina would try their luck with someone else and cut Nečas.
That’s why, at 23 years old, Necas was still waiting for a big contract and signed for only two years. But he made the most of it, it expires at the end of June and he’s in a completely different position than he was when he signed it.
Necas is currently wanted by half of the NHL teams, which he contributed to mainly with his great performances in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but also with his excellent performance at the World Championships. While it’s true that the World Championships don’t have the same viewership overseas, the highlights of the sensational Nečas have reached the fans.
While within the club’s management, the biggest interest in Nečas is in Vancouver, Nashville or Florida, among the fans he leads a club where they have great experience with Czech players. And they want to expand it. Boston Bruins.
Nečas? A future Bruin!
At a post on the X network where Boston congratulated David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha on their gold, many fans asked for another Czech shipment for the new year. “Pasto, don’t forget to bring Nečas with you!” a Bruins fan said. “You forgot to congratulate future Bruins player Martin Nečas, ” added another.
“I can’t wait for the Zacha-Necas-Pastrnak line next season, ” a Bruins fan said. “Bring Necas to Boston, you can’t go wrong!” urged another fan.
There are hundreds of comments on social media asking Bruins fans for Nečas. It’s no coincidence, as Nečas is coming off contract and will become a protected free agent. Carolina still has the rights to him, but other teams can come in with trade offers.
And Nečas himself has reportedly asked the Hurricanes GM for a trade, as he is not happy with his role on the team. And it’s not much to be surprised, Nečas is an elite player on the first two lines and the first power-play formation, but in Carolina, he’s been wandering through the lineup and most often on the third line, so he’s not getting the ice time he deserves.
In Boston he would certainly get it, plus he would have an easier acclimatization thanks to Pastrnak, Zacha and Luka. After David Krejci’s departure, Boston would have four Czech forwards in the lineup again, and it should be added that the Žďár native would be a huge boost for the Bruins.
