Sabah won surprisingly a week ago, now Partizan has to work. The third preliminary round of the Conference Europa League culminates on Thursday, with the paper underdog coming to Serbian soil with a two-goal lead. What to expect from the rematch?
Partizan has started the domestic competition well after a bad league season last year, after three rounds they are in third place with seven points. However, the opening match of the qualification did not go well at all, as they fell unexpectedly 0:2 in Azerbaijan.
Sabah is so confident in the result of the first match that he postponed the weekend’s second round league match.
They won in the first game week, followed up at home against Partizan and will now fight for a historic qualification to the Conference playoffs.
Partizan’s key figures
Matheus Saldanha operates at the tip of the home team’s attack, with the Brazilian speedster hitting twice so far. The ageless icon of Israeli football Bibras Natcho shines in the midfield, at 35 years old he is still standing by his team’s important goals (2+3).
Sabah’s key figures
Sabah’s offensive is held by Emmanuel Apeh, the Nigerian playmaker has two goals and an assist. Azerbaijan international Aleksey Isayev scored twice and assisted once from the midfield.
What to expect and what to bet on?
Apart from the game in Baku, Partizan are doing well up front, with the team from the capital scoring more than once in three of their last four games. Although they finished fourth last year, they had the second best offensive line in the competition.
On the other hand, Sabah has also performed well towards the attack, scoring more than once each time in the last four games. Still, it lost substantially to Karabakh last year, with the league champion putting in 16 more goals.
Given Partizan’s experience in cups, the overall better quality of their squad, and even the form of the Serbian offense, we can expect them to win at least at home, whatever it takes.
