Vondrous start for Vondroušová
Vondroušová made a great start against the world number two. She broke her opponent’s serve in the first game of the match. She managed to confirm the break with her serve and took a promising 2:0 lead. A great start to the match.
The important moment of the first set came when Vondroušová was serving at 2:1. The Czech was down 0::30, but with four balls in a row, she finally secured her serve. The break advantage was still in her possession.
As the first set progressed, Belarus started to dominate more and more with her aggressive play. This allowed her to take the break and level the match at 3::3. However, she then made a few silly mistakes and Vondrousova broke her serve again. The Czech tennis player managed the end of the 1st set very well. She held both her serves with ease, winning the opening set 6::4.
Sabalenka’s game is improving rapidly
Right at the beginning of the second set, the Czech broke for a break point, but Sabalenka’s serve held this time. The Belarusian took a 1:0 lead, which was a very important moment of this set. In the very next game she took away her opponent’s serve and gained an important break advantage.
The world number two managed to confirm the break and took a 3:0 lead. She was well on her way to taking this match to a deciding set. She did just that. The Belarusian favourite took the second set 6: 3, with the final set deciding the match

The opening of the third set went much better for Vondrousova than in the previous set. This time she held her serve and took the lead at the start of the deciding set. However, Vondrousova’s next hesitation came quite soon. At 1:1 she lost her serve, Sabalenka gained the advantage of the break and was closer to advancing to the eight-finals.
The important game took place on the Belarusian’s subsequent serve. The Czech won a break point, but the match was not tied at 2:2. Sabalenka, on the other hand, confirmed the break, leading 3:1 in the third set.
This was the turning point of the match. Vondroušová lost another serve, Sabalenka had the advantage of two breaks and the winner was practically decided.
The end of the match was in Sabalenka’s exhibition spirit. The Belarusian favourite brought her big turnaround to a victorious end, winning 4::6, 6::3 and 6::1 to advance to the eight-finals.
Markéta Vondrousová is now out of the third round of the Australian Open and will not be defending last year’s eight-final. Advancing to the second week of the tournament was not far away at all. However, Sabalenka played absolutely great from the second set onwards, she absolutely deserved the scalp of the Czech player. She will face Estonia’s Kanepi in the eighth round.
