The Czech Republic has advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Championship and Tomas Soucek believes it may not be the final. How did he and his teammates evaluate the match against the Netherlands and what did the national team say after the game?
Tomáš Souček led the Czech Republic to the European Championship Eight Finals as captain and he values this moment very much. “It’s a great honour. I wanted the boys to be able to rely on me on and off the pitch. We work hard and then individuality can come out of it. That showed in the match,” he was heard saying after the match.
Apart from a great performance, he praised the squad which made changes in the starting line-up not such a problem. He then dedicated the win to his teammates who did not make it to the Euros for various reasons. He specifically mentioned Pavlenka, Provoda and Kudel.
He liked the atmosphere very much. There were almost 70 000 fans in the stadium. But should the quarter-finals be the final stop? Souček doesn’t think so, on the contrary: “The Danes are great, we have to prepare for them. We have plenty of time to prepare, our journey through the tournament doesn’t have to end.”
Patrik Schick also appreciates the promotion, saying that the whole team worked hard for the success, which could be seen on the pitch. “Maybe we are not as good footballers as the Dutch, but in today’s football you need commitment and team spirit. We showed that and it was key. It’s a real bomb,” the Leverkusen striker was delighted.
It was the first game of the tournament for Pavel Kadeřábek, who had not played a live game for over a month. “It wasn’t easy, but the guys supported me. I felt nervous at the beginning, but after a few minutes everything went away and I felt great,” described his feelings from the match.
Besides the fact that he defended well, he also found himself in a great chance. He did not score a goal. “My goal would have been such a cherry on top. Most important of all is our victory. I am happy that I could be there,” Kadeřábek finished.
