The WTA 500 tournament in Ostrava will be held for the third time this year. The first time it was held here was in 2020, when a replacement for the cancelled tournament in Zhengzhou, China, was sought due to a coronavirus.
This year it will be played from 1 to 9 October, with the first two days of qualifying and the main phase of the tournament starting on 3 October. The AGEL Open has already published the list of registered players and there is a lot to look forward to.
World-class stars will be heading to Ostrava again. Iga Šwiateková, who reached the semi-finals here last year, will not be missing again. The world number one has shown great qualities this year and has a huge lead at the top of the WTA rankings.
The city in Moravian-Silesian territory will also be visited by the number three Anett Kontaveitova, who won the tournament last time, and the world number six Maria Sakkari, who was not able to beat Kontaveitova in the final a year ago.
From the world top ten, fans can also look forward to Paula Badosa in Ostravar Arena.
To make matters worse, this year’s Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina, two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka, last year’s US Open winner Emma Raducanu and former Roland Garros champions Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova will also be in attendance.
Apart from Krejčíková, Karolina Pliskova will also be playing at home.
