In the past, it was customary for a large number of Czech players to play in the Bundesliga. This is no longer a reality, but it seems that we should soon see another one. The young Lukáš Ambros is waiting for his chance in Wolfsburg.

Eighteen-year-old Lukáš Ambros came to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2020 from Slavia Prague, and he even earned the captain’s armband in the club’s junior team.

He also played in the youth Champions League and got a chance to train with the A-team in the summer. Coach Niko Kovač then pulled him into the winter training, where he really showed off his skills.

He played four preparatory games, three of them in full. He even scored against Augsburg, which kept him in the squad.

Against Hertha Berlin he was on the bench, but unfortunately he didn’t get on the pitch despite the favourable result and the subsequent 5:0 win. Nevertheless, it is expected that he could make his debut soon.

“My manager Martin Krob and I recently found out that I could be the youngest Czech to make his Bundesliga debut, which got us interested. I have to admit that I made it a personal goal. It would be great if I could play in the German league at the age of 18..

Now I’ve had my second training camp with Wolfsburg. In the summer there were more of us youngsters, because the boys from the youth team got time off, but now in the winter there were only three of us and I was among them. I’m glad for that. Plus, since the camp I stayed with the first team.

We have a relatively young squad, but with a lot of quality, which I see every day in training and I think it was also evident in the last games. But I’m humble. I’m waiting for my chance. After all, I am one of the youngest guys and my role in the team depends on that,” Ambros said in a blog post on the Livesport News website.

Wolfsburg are currently seventh, so they will be fighting for cup places in the spring. However, a cup game against Union is already on the schedule today, so he could get a chance from the coach.
