The London derby between Arsenal and Crystal Palace was the highlight of the eighth round of the English top flight. However, we witnessed an ugly moment in the match – at the end of the first half Bukayo Saka was brutally brought down by James McArthur!
The match started very well for the home side, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring in the eighth minute to send the Canaries into the lead – 1::0!
However, the visitors had more of the game, Crystal Palace players were very active and dangerous in the offensive activity. In the 42nd minute, however, came the tackle that many fans thought McArthur should have been sent off for!
However, he only received a yellow card from Mike Dean. The visitors were happy to finish the game with their full strength. As can be seen in the video, Saka was the first player to get to the ball. But then he was fouled really badly and literally brought down.
It’s already very strange that the referee decided to only give McArthur a yellow card. The situation was then reviewed by VAR. But it made no difference, which is all the more remarkable.
Sure, McArthur may have attacked the Arsenal player unintentionally, but he could have hurt him very seriously with that tackle. Moreover, Dean had already cautioned the Scottish midfielder during the first half, for a foul on Emile Smith Rowe.
Saka was substituted early in the second half, very probably as a result of that brutal foul in the first act. His place on the field was taken by Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Alexandre Lacazette saving a point for the home side in injury time. Patrick Vieira’s charges were unable to hold on to the lead and took a single point from the Emirates Stadium, although they deserved all three given their superiority and activity.
