Real Madrid have been plagued by a large squad since the start of the season. Key players like Vinicius Junior or Jude Bellingham are often among the injured. Which players have so far escaped injury? There are only 6.

Andriy Lunin

The Ukrainian goalkeeper, after the injury of the White Ballet’s clear number one Thibault Courtois, has taken his place in goal. He was brought in as an opponent by the management with Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea. In the beginning, Carlo Ancelotti alternated both goalkeepers, as both were able to hold the team with great saves, but then also to sink them with great blunders.

However, recent matches suggest that the Ukrainian goalkeeper, who has been waiting for his chance, won the mini duel with the Spanish goalkeeper. The clean sheet against Girona was more or less for free, as the opponent did not score for the whole match. Lunin showed his skill and great form to the full in the opening match of the Champions League eight-final at Leipzig, where he stamped out the home strikers with 9 great saves.

Fran García

The left offensive defender is the only one of Madrid’s defence to have suffered no injuries this season. In the summer, Real Madrid exercised the option and brought García back to the club from Rayo Vallecano. At the beginning of the season, he was a regular at left-back, but due to his lack of defensive focus, he eventually wandered to the bench.

When Ferland Mendy was injured, Alaba, Cammavinga or Nacho even filled in for the still promising defender on the left edge of defence. All of the aforementioned players were ahead of the Spaniard in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order. At the moment, he is picking up minutes rather sporadically and his future at the Santiago Bernabeu is unclear.

Federico Valverde

The Uruguayan engine of Real Madrid’s midfield has started every competitive game so far. This season hasn’t been as goal scoring as the last one, when he had more or less 10 goals at this stage of the season. However, the amount of space he has covered is incredible.

Compared to his teammates, he has incredible dynamism and speed, so thanks to his great physical fund, he can be on both sides of the field at the most important moments. There is no denying the South American blood and so Valverde doesn’t go far for a hard tackle, however he only saw 1 yellow card.

Toni Kroos

The German veteran, who is out of contract at Madrid after the season, is off to a great start. In the absence of Tchouameni and Camavinga, he can occupy the number six spot and performs defensive tasks with sovereignty. Toni Kroos’ passing accuracy is once again above 93%.

The German fans are calling for his return to the team for the EURO. Modric, another long-term mainstay, is also out of contract in Madrid after the season. Most likely one of them will be offered a one-year contract extension.

At the moment, Kroos is much closer to another year in the white jersey than his Croatian teammate. The German speedster has mentioned several times that he wants to end his career in a Real Madrid jersey.

Joselu

When Fiorentino Pérez and the whole of Real Madrid announced the guest appearance of the Spanish striker, the whole football world was tapping its forehead. Going into the season without the number 1 striker was unimaginable in Madrid until now. The lanky forward was supposed to complete the Brazilian duo of Rodrygo – Vinicus. As time went on, however, it began to appear that Joselu would be a great move.

At the moment, Joselu is one of Real Madrid’s top scorers. Only Jude Bellingham and Vinicius have more goals. 12 goals and 4 assists, that’s the Spaniard’s record. There is speculation in Madrid about a buyout from Espanyol and Joselu would become a tribal player of the White Ballet.

Rodrygo

Of the pair of Brazilian whizzkids, Rodrygo is the one less discussed. However, the Italian manager could count on him in all the games this season. The Brazilian has stated in several interviews that he prefers to start from the wing. On the other hand, he doesn’t mind the position of a spike striker as he will do whatever the coach wants him to do to win for his team.

This season he has played in 35 matches in which he managed to score 13 goals and 7 more to set up. Working with Vinicus suits him very well, the opponent guards Vini more and so Rodrygo has more space.
