Cristiano Ronaldo was on the run from Old Trafford back in the summer. However, there was a lot of press about which clubs were refusing to buy him. Olympique Marseille was supposed to be one of them. The president of the traditional French club revealed what was what and why it didn’t work out.
The Portuguese legend is still at Manchester United and it is impossible to talk about his satisfaction. The last game proved it, when Ronaldo left Old Trafford before the final whistle. Instead of a great performance by the Red Devils, it was the behaviour of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner that was addressed.
The fact is, however, that all summer the talk was mainly about the fact that the best goalscorer in Champions League history wanted to leave for another club. But Manchester United constantly denied it and no transfer eventually happened.
Ronaldo was to be rejected by clubs like Napoli, Atlético Madrid and Olympique Marseille. And it was the president of the latter club who spoke to the media on Thursday evening about how it all went down.
“Football is simple. You have to make do with the resources at your disposal. With the financial balance. You have to do everything you can to get the best results, to strive to improve the team, but with financial stability, that’s what’s important today,” Pablo Longoria began his comments to RMC Sport.
“We are far from ideas like signing Ronaldo or other stars. We focus on team players who do their individual performances for the benefit of the team. We have a project where everyone has to work for the collective,” Longoria also alluded to Ronaldo’s behaviour.
