Jesse Lingard’s contract at Manchester United expires in June. After that, he will become a free agent. What did the Red Devils coach say about his future and how would the player himself like to continue his career?
Jesse Lingard will celebrate his 29th birthday in December and has been at Manchester United for over 10 years. He has had glorious moments, but he has also had moments he would rather forget. He is one of the stars at his club. Last year he had a great loan spell in a West Ham jersey, but this year he has failed to build on his performances from last season.
If Lingard does not start negotiations for a new contract at his current club, he would become a free agent and could move anywhere, he could even start negotiations for a future contract with foreign clubs as early as January. But the possibility of him staying in Manchester is also there.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about his future in a press conference after the Champions League loss to Young Boys. Manchester were leading but eventually lost 1: 2, Jesse Lingard passed to the opponent for the winning goal.
“Jesse’s current contract expires this season and the club has been in contact with the player and his father, we still see him as a Manchester United player in the future. Jesse has returned to us after a great loan spell at West Ham. He showed his qualities, returned to the England national team and even scored a goal for them. We really want to see the best he can show us this season and we believe we will see that. We support him and we believe we will keep him.”
So there is interest in keeping Lingard in a United jersey. It will now be up to the player himself to decide where his future goes.
