What has been rumored for a long time is now becoming a reality. UFC President Dana White confirmed Wednesday that Jiri Prochazka will return to the cage at November’s UFC 295, where the legendary Jon Jones will also defend his belt.

The cursed welterweight division gets its resolution

Card of the Year? At least for Czech mixed martial arts fans, definitely. They’ve been waiting for the return of the Czech samurai to the cage for over a year, and now it’s becoming official.

After Jiri Prochazka announced a serious shoulder injury last year, which caused him to relinquish his championship belt, the UFC’s welterweight division seemed to be under a curse.

The replacement title fight, which Dana White called “terrible,” ended in a draw. After that, though, Jamahal Hill won the vacant title, sending veteran Glover Teixeira into retirement. But when he had to defend his title, he suffered the same fate as the Czech fighter.

And so there was talk that Alex Pereira, who had lost his opponent, would fight Procházka. The date of the possible fight was discussed for a long time, as most of the numbered UFC tournaments already had title fights booked.

December’s UFC 296 tournament seemed the most likely, but now everything is different. In fact, the UFC president confirmed on Wednesday’s broadcast that we will see a Prochazka vs. Pereira fight as early as November’s UFC 295 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Procházka will fight for his title at UFC 295 in November

Procházka will be on the card with his idol, the legendary Jon Jones. He will defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in the main event of the night. Also according to the official UFC website, it is confirmed that Procházka will have the main event of the night.

“I’m happy to face this Brazilian challenge again, albeit in a different coat,” Procházka wrote on his Instagram. “But that doesn’t change the fact that I will prepare well for this challenge and go for the win.”

“It’s not just about the belt anymore, it’s about the performance and the path to victory. We are going for it. Victory,” the Czech samurai concluded in his typical way.
