Odegaard has signed a new contract with Arsenal. Will the Gunners captain finally lead his team to a big win?
In a very short space of time, Martin Odegaard has become an absolutely key figure in the new Arsenal side that Mikel Arteta managed to put together in less than 4 years at the Emirates Stadium. The Norwegian midfielder’s contract extension thus gives hope for a great tomorrow.
In a very short space of time, Martin Odegaard has become an absolutely key figure in the new Arsenal side that Mikel Arteta managed to put together in less than 4 years at the Emirates Stadium. The Norwegian midfielder’s contract extension thus gives hope for a great tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the current Gunners captain arrived from Real Madrid in 2021 for 35 million euros. Already now at the age of 24, he is worth €90 million according to Transfermarkt.
Both last season and the current one, he is clearly one of the best players in the team. Arsenal have not been lazy and have signed the 178 cm tall midfielder until 2028.
“Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me, what we are doing now as a club is exceptional and I want to be part of it,” Odegaard said after signing the contract.
Arsenal have been playing beautiful football, beating Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield to open the season. Except for a draw with Fulham, they have been picking up all the wins in the Premier League so far, although strong opponents are yet to come. And in the Champions League, they started with a 4-0 win over PSV.
Last season was already great, this time it could end with some trophies for Arteta and co.
“I’m really excited about what awaits me here. I have found a place where I can really settle down and call home. I have felt great at Arsenal since day one and it is definitely my home for the present and the future,” Odegaard added.
Now, however, Arsenal face a big challenge in the form of Tottenham, who have also seen a significant resurgence under new coach Ange Postecoglou. Next up is a duel with Bournemouth and then a showdown with their biggest rival, none other than Manchester City.
So far, everything is running like clockwork, but the biggest challenges that will show whether the Gunners have come of age to actually pull off some of those big wins are yet to come.
