Obstacle in the title fight! UFC may want to fight Prochazka and Rakic first
The fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira went better for the latter, who is now the UFC welterweight champion. Teixeira wants to take some time off and his next fight won’t be until the summer.
The fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira went better for the latter, who is now the UFC welterweight champion. Teixeira wants to take some time off and his next fight won’t be until the summer, so now the question is whether the UFC would rather have Jiri Prochazka fight Aleksandar Rakic than have the Czech go straight for the title and not fight for a year.
A title shot has never been closer for Jiri Prochazka. Glover Teixeira is in favor of him being the next title challenger.
There’s one small complication though, Teixeira is getting up there in age and won’t want another fight until next summer or so. But that would mean that Prochazka would have to wait a year.
And the UFC may not like that too much, making the number two ranked fighter wait that long. In fact, the number three contender Aleksandar Rakic doesn’t even have his fight. And he’s the one who would like to fight Prochazka.
He’s also been out for a long time, and from the organization’s point of view, it would make the most sense. However, the Czech fighter would have a tough obstacle in front of him and if he doesn’t beat Rakic, he might never get to the title fight.
The UFC still has not released a statement surrounding the new title challenger. However, the defeated Jan Blachowicz is expected to face Anthony Smith, who is the man Rakic wanted to fight.
The latter is now vacant, so it can be expected that the Czech fighter will have to prove himself once more before he can fight for the belt.
