Nyck de Vries on his way from AlphaTauri? Schumacher is clear, he could be replaced by a former Red Bull or McLaren driver

He impressed at Monza last year, but this year it’s one big tragedy. Nyck de Vries was given a chance at a Formula One career at the age of 28, but according to former driver Ralf Schumacher, that opportunity is coming to an end.

Is the end for Nyck de Vries in AlphaTauri, and therefore most likely the end of Formula 1, approaching?

The Dutch driver has been given the chance to race for Red Bull’s second team this year. The winner of the Formula 2 championship (2019 – ed.) and the champion of the 2020/21 Formula E season will probably not drive much more.

As it has already been revealed, Christian Horner was very sceptical about his involvement, and currently even Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko is not happy with De Vries.

De Vries stunned the Formula 1 world last year when, as a substitute for Alex Albon at Williams, he managed to finish ninth in the Italian Grand Prix and score two valuable points for the team.

But this year has been a disaster, both in terms of driving and results. De Vries hasn’t scored a single point in the current season and, along with Logan Sargeant, is the worst rider in the starting field.

His best finish was in Monaco, where he finished 12th. Otherwise, he has added three 14th places, two 17th, two 18th and has failed to finish the Grand Prix twice. According to F1 Insider, Daniel Ricciardo is set to take over his seat after the summer break, and therefore after the Belgian GP.

The fact remains that AlphaTauri has one of the weakest cars in the starting field at the moment. However, Yuki Cunoda, the Italian team’s number one, beats his teammate in terms of performance and results almost regularly.

The Japanese driver has scored two points with his car this season and has come very close to scoring points in three others. And the same cannot be said for De Vries.

It’s already decided, Schumacher thinks

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has also commented on the situation and is sure that the decision to sack De Vries has already been made.

“The decision has already been made, I am absolutely sure of that. It’s a pity for him that he probably won’t be able to drive his home race (Dutch GP – ed.). De Vries will no longer be in the car after the summer break,” Schumacher told Sky Sport Germany.

The mandatory one-month summer break is scheduled to start after the Belgian Grand Prix on Monday, July 31. F1 will return to racing at the end of August when the Dutch Grand Prix is on the schedule.
