Matěj Peňáz will get a chance to fight for a contract in the prestigious UFC in Dana White’s Contender Series, but Oktagon will lose a really interesting fighter. What promoter Ondrej Novotny had to say about his chance.

Matej Peñáz was getting closer and closer to a title shot, but he may not continue in the Octagon. The promising fighter will take part in Dana White’s Contender Series project.

He will get the opportunity to fight for a contract in the prestigious UFC organization and fulfill his dream. Although Czech fans are certainly happy about this chance, the promoters of Oktagon must have mixed feelings.

Ondřej Novotný spoke about this in MMA Flight Through the World, and he regrets the loss of a fighter of such quality, but certainly wishes him success.

“I wish Matej without a doubt, let him go his own way. I think he is capable of beating basically anyone he is put up against in Contender. I think he’s ready for the tougher opponents here.

I’m a little disappointed that when I was saying that here and trying to get even more attractive/heavier opponents, not that he doesn’t have good opponents, the coaches were holding him back and disapproving and now all of a sudden we’re going to Contender and from Contender to the UFC.

I’d say there will be fighters in Contender that Matthysse can beat, but do I think Matthysse is ready to make the hole he’d be ready to make in a year, in maybe three more fights, where he can test himself against tough opponents like Patrik Kincl or Lohoré?

I think therewas still time for that, I don’t think he would have missed anything, and in that sense I think as a fan and as a friend I think it’s time, the UFC could have waited, there’s no rush,” he said.

Peñaz has only been in the MMA world for a year and a half, and Novotny’s words are certainly understandable. But let’s wish him success and let’s see another Czech in the UFC.
