Novotny criticizes the UFC: We bought a ticket for 20 thousand and got nothing out of it! There’s no entertainment for the guy who comes
Ondrej Novotny has an overview of the MMA scene as an Oktagon promoter. He recently visited the UFC 296 tournament, where his former charge Martin Buday fought. After the tournament Novotny did not spare any criticism, because he did not like what the UFC did for the fans in the hall.

The Oktagon has no competition on the domestic scene, the biggest Czech-Slovak organization has already expanded to Germany and is trying to make its way in the UK, selling out halls and pushing the conditions of fighters across Europe.
Even though it often can’t pay the same money as its competitors, fighters come to it because they enjoy what Oktagon does. That’s not the case everywhere, the UFC in particular has been fairly criticised.
The most famous MMA organization in the world doesn’t move much and goes at its own pace. After all, it has no competition, it is the number one in the market and understandably has the most fans.
But the promoter Ondrej Novotny himself decided to criticize the UFC. The reason for this is the UFC 296 tournament, which he took part in because he was headed to the MMA Oscars. And what he saw in the arena didn’t exactly please him.
Novotny criticizes the UFC
“We went there to see the whole thing because Buday went first. I said, ‘We’re here. I don’t want to sit there for six hours because I know they’re p***ing on it.’ Actually, for the people who come into the hall… We had a nice ticket, but not VIP.
What costs 3,500 CZK here, 20,000 there and mate, they don’t do anything for you in that hall. Nothing. There’s no entertainment for the person who comes. There’s no information for the person who comes there. It’s probably the biggest tournament of the year and there’s nothing for the people that are right in the hall.
There’s no activation on that ring around there, which of course I went through the whole thing. They just f**k it up. It’s televised with people in the hall, which is actually awfully strange that it can still work like that and it works just fine because those people are ready to leave..
I did the math in my head and those 20,000 people left something like $3,000,000 in refreshments I think in 6 hours,” said Ondrej Novotny on the Kudy Bezi Zajic podcast.
