Novak Djokovic has been at the top of the rankings for many weeks. Now the world number one will visit Belgrade, where his brother Djordje Djokovic is hosting the tournament. How will he fare here?
Novak Djokovic has already dominated the tournament in his hometown of Belgrade. In 2009, he defeated Poland’s Lukasz Kubot in the final after 6:3 and 7:6 sets.
The last edition of this tournament took place in 2012. Since then he has disappeared from the ATP map. It’s only returning now, after nine long years. And its director is Djordje Djokovic, Novak’s younger brother.
So it’s no surprise that the world number one will also be on the courts in Serbia. The latter may increase his lead at the top of the rankings, as runner-up Daniil Medvedev has tested positive for coronavirus and will be forced to take a leave of absence.
Other big names that will show up on the clay courts of the Serbian capital are Mateo Berrettini, Aslan Karatsev and Dusan Lajovic. Dominic Thiem was also supposed to start here, but he withdrew due to a knee injury.
The event, which falls into the ATP Tour 250 category, will have to do without Czech representation. Nevertheless, we can look forward to interesting duels.
