Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has finished playing for a while. According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, he underwent meniscus surgery in his knee, which caused him to withdraw from Roland Garros. His start at Wimbledon is almost out of the question, and the Olympics are also in danger.

Novak Djokovic, at the age of thirty-seven, is still proving to be one of the best tennis players in the world. In the latest edition of the ATP rankings he is in the top position, but unfortunately he will lose it.

After the Czech tennis player Tomas Machac defeated him in Geneva at the end of May, he was unable to dominate the prestigious Roland Garros, where he finished in the quarterfinals.

However, it was not a defeat, but an injury. The Serbian injured his knee in his match against Argentine Francisco Cerúndol on Monday, but he finished the match and won.

The next day he skipped training and underwent an examination which showed nothing good. Djokovic thus withdrew from the tournament and Norwegian Casper Ruud advanced to the semifinals without a fight.

“I played with my heart and gave my all in the match. Unfortunately. After careful consideration and consultation, I had to make a tough decision,” the experienced tennis player, who complained about the condition of the court during the tournament, wrote on Instagram.

Djokovic had to undergo surgery

In addition, according to the French daily L’Équipe, he has already undergone surgery on the meniscus in his right knee and will have to recover. His participation at Wimbledon is almost out of the question.

The tennis tournament at the Olympic Games, where Djokovic also wanted to go, is also in danger. But there are still two months to go and the chance to play in the tournament is still alive. However, he himself currently doesn’t know how he will be in such a long time and whether he will want to come back quickly after the surgery and take risks.
