Monday’s football programme will feature a relegation battle between Nottingham and Southampton. What to expect from the match between two teams in the relegation zone and what to bet on?

Nottingham have only dropped back into the relegation zone due to five losses from their last six games. From 18th place, they are only a point behind 17th-placed Leeds, plus Forest have a round to go. And they must beat Southampton at home if they want to save themselves.

Especially as Saints are essentially the first relegation team. They are six points behind the last-placed team, and they will also challenge upstart Brighton and Liverpool in the remaining four rounds. They’re nine rounds away from a win.

Nottingham’s key figures

The home side is led by young striker Brennan Johnson, the Welsh international has struck ten times and assisted twice. Summer midfield reinforcement Morgan Gibbs-White has netted four goals and assisted six.

Southampton’s key figures

On the south coast they are slowly saying goodbye to James Ward-Prowse, the midfield starlet with a 9+3 record has been given permission to leave in the event of the club’s relegation. Youngster Carlos Alcaraz arrived from Argentina in the winter and is already on three goals and one assist.

What to expect and what to bet on?

Nottingham have improved in terms of productivity over the course of the season, netting six goals in the last three rounds, while playing against Liverpool, Brentford and Brighton. The Gibbs-White, Johnson pairing has clicked.

Southampton, on the other hand, still haven’t found a proper striker and that is why they are the second worst shooting team in the league with 28 shots. They have struck more than once in just one of their last 16 games across all competitions.

Considering the traditionally raucous atmosphere at Nottingham Stadium, the decent shooting form of the home side and Southampton’s shooting woes, I think they will come out victorious at home.
