The highlight of Friday’s Premier League football programme will be the clash between Nottingham and Newcastle. While the home side are fighting for bare survival, the visitors would like to go to the cups after years. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?

Nottingham’s good form from late last year and early this year is gone. It has been waiting for a win for five rounds and is slowly approaching back to the relegation zone, currently two points ahead of the 14th position in the balanced table.

Newcastle are not doing well either. Last weekend they finally won after five rounds and returned to fifth place. It is four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with two games to go, while it has only a five-point lead over eighth-placed Fulham.

Nottingham’s key figures

The home side rely on youngster Brennan Johnson, the Welsh international has hit seven times and assisted twice. Morgan Gibbs-White, who has scored twice and assisted on five goals, is preparing the action for him.

Newcastle’s key players

Alexander Isak returned from injury with a goal in the last round and has four shots in nine Premier League games overall. Winger Miguel Almirón is having his most productive season, author of 11 goals and three assists.

Prediction

It is almost a miracle that Nottingham are not in the relegation zone. The goal difference – 26 is the second worst in the league after Bournemouth, Nottingham also have the fourth worst attack and the second worst defence.

Conversely, Newcastle still have the league’s best defensive record, conceding just 18 goals, an average of 0.72 per round. It is also the king of draws, having taken one point on 11 occasions in the Premier League.

Considering Newcastle’s frequent draws, its worse form since the beginning of the year and the expectation that it will go nowhere in front of the boisterous Bournemouth fans, I recommend betting on a draw at half-time or at the end of the game.
