Nobody has the form of Verstappen! What did his teammate Sergio Pérez say about the reigning champion?
Absolute dominance – this is probably a safe way to interpret Red Bull’s performance at the start of this season. The two-time reigning champion Max Verstappen, whose teammate Sergio Pérez described him as the strongest driver in the grid at the moment, is driving with excellent form.

A win in Bahrain and second place, plus the fastest lap of the race in Saudi Arabia. Verstappen got off on the right foot to defend his title, although he was very unhappy with second place after just the second race of the season.
The Red Bull driver encountered technical difficulties in qualifying on Saturday. He had to shut down his car due to a driveshaft problem in Q2 and only started the Saudi Grand Prix from fifteenth place.
However, Verstappen climbed all the way up to the final second place thanks to the help of the safety car. Moreover, he still disobeyed his team to slow down at the end of the race due to technical problems on the Red Bull monoposts.
The Dutch driver, on the other hand, accelerated even faster and took one extra championship point from Pérez for setting the fastest lap of the race.
In terms of the current standings in both championships, Red Bull clearly dominates the Constructors’ Cup with 87. Second and third place are shared by Aston Martin and Mercedes (38 points), with Ferrari fourth (26 points).
In any case, the Red Bull drivers also dominate the Drivers’ Championship, with Verstappen leading by one point over Pérez. At the moment, it seems that these two drivers will be competing for the championship this year.
In any case, it is the Mexican driver who is aware of the strength of his teammate. He confirmed this in an interview with Motorsport-Total ahead of the Australian GP on Thursday.
Pérez on Verstappen…
“There is no doubt that nobody is in as good a shape as Max. In this team and with this car he is the hardest to beat. Having Max as a reference point makes you a better driver,” Pérez said of Verstappen.
Whether one of the Red Bull drivers will also win the upcoming race in Melbourne, we will have to wait until Sunday to find out. The Australian Grand Prix starts at 7am on Sunday.
