The first women’s quarterfinal offered an interesting duel between Barbora Krejcikova and Madison Keys. The Czech tennis player was a slight favourite. Unfortunately, the paper expectations were not fulfilled in this match. Krejcikova did not play a good match, she committed a lot of unforced errors. Keysova beat her 6::3 6::2 and deservedly advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open. Her next opponent will be either Barty or Pegula.
Both players struggled on serve at the start of the set. Both Krejcikova and Keys faced 2 break points. But in neither case was there a break.
At 2::2, Krejcikova had 4 break points. She couldn’t take advantage of them, Keys helped herself with a great serve. These missed opportunities cost Krejcikova dearly.
In the next game she made several unnecessary errors and offered Keys more break points. The American took advantage of one of them and won the crucial break of the first set. The end of the opening set did not bring any more reversal, Keys won the 1st set 6::3.
The opening of the 2nd set did not go well for Krejcikova either. She made several unnecessary errors and therefore lost her serve again, the situation was becoming very critical for her. Her performance went down rapidly.
Keys made perfect use of this with another break point. After that, the American also had a weaker moment. Keys played her weakest game on serve and lost her serve for the first time in the match. Krejcikova was able to reduce it to 2::3 and the drama in the 2nd set was taken care of.
However, this match didn’t last very long. Krejcikova lost her serve again, Keys served for the win at 6::3 and 5::2, which she did successfully. The American defeated Krejcikova 6: 3 and 6: 2 and will play the better of the Barty – Pegula pair in the semifinals.
