Nigeria’s dreaded attack. The Super Eagles have a great offensive force at their disposal!
In just a few months, the AFCON, or African Championship, will get underway and Nigeria may be among the favourites. The latter will put together a very dangerous and quality attack.
In just a few months, the AFCON, or African Championship, will get underway and Nigeria may be among the favourites. The latter will put together a very dangerous and quality attack.
Before we start praising Nigeria’s offensive performance, we need to look at the shortcomings. Because while the Super Eagles’ offence is extremely polished, the midfield and defence is not so good.
This is also why Nigeria missed the last World Cup in Qatar and crashed out at the last African Championship in the 1/16 finals. It’s just that the attack is so pumped up now that the whole team has to pull.
The 24-year-old striker shot Napoli to the Scudetto with 26 goals, he is in decent form this season (6 goals in 8 games) and his market value is €128 million. There is even talk of interest from Real Madrid.
Another name that may not have been on anyone’s radar before the season, but now raises eyebrows, is Victor Boniface. He moved to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer and is repaying Xabi’s trust in a great way – 7 goals and 2 assists in 7 Bundesliga games, one goal in the cup and a 1+1 record in the Europa League. At his age (22), he may soon be moving to an even better address.
This time we’ll look from the tip of the attack to the wing. That’s where Samuel Chukwueze operates. The extremely fast dribbler had an excellent season at Villarreal, from where he was bought by AC Milan for €20 million. He hasn’t made it there yet, but he has a lot of talent. And he’s still only 24 years old.
Ademola Lookman is also in contention for the starting line-up. The 25-year-old striker has Premier League experience, having played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester, and has also played for Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Currently in his second season at Atalanta, he netted 13 goals and added 6 assists in last season’s Serie A campaign.
Kelehi Iheanacho is not a young talent anymore, rather an experienced player, although 27 is not a great age. He peeked into the Premier League in a Manchester City jersey, now in his seventh year with Leicester. He has 42 goals in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old Nottingham forward scored ten goals in the Premier League last season and has now scored three times in seven starts.
But that is not the end of the list of the Nigerian’s offensive prowess. In Genk, 21-year-old Gift Orban shines, who netted 15 goals in 16 games last season. Emmanuel Dennis had a quality season after his transfer to Watford, but after his move to Nottingham he didn’t do so well, now he plays for Basaksehir.
In addition, Nigeria also has names like Akor Adams (Montpellier), Umar Sadiq (Real Sociedad), Ahmed Musa (Sivasspor), Cyriel Dessers (Rangers) and Terem Moffi (Nice).
