In the first Group D match at AFCON, two teams worth watching will face each other. They are Nigeria, whose national team includes Slavia’s Peter Olayinka, and Egypt, for whom Liverpool star Salah will play.
Both Nigeria and Egypt are favoured to go very far during their time at the African Championship. Nigeria has been labelled by several experts as the dark horse of the tournament, yet Egypt is the slight favourite in this match.
There are a lot of interesting names in Nigeria’s selection. For the Czech fans and especially the Slavic ones, it is Peter Olayinka. Furthermore, striker Kelechi Iheanacho, winger Alex Iwobi and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will appear in the Nigerian green jersey.
Out of the last five matches, Nigeria have won three times, drawn once and emerged as the losing side. The scoreline from those matches is 7-3.
The biggest star of Egypt’s selection is undoubtedly Mohamed Salah. But then, there are no such big names. The midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Arsenal or the striker Mohamed Mostafa from Galatasaray are worth mentioning.
Egypt is in similar form to Nigeria. It has won 2 of its last games, drawn one and lost two. The score from these five matches is 9:4.
It will be a very close match. Egypt has been identified as the slight favourite for the match, but Nigeria can of course surprise. Both teams have a strong attack that regularly scores goals. On the other hand, the defences of both teams score a lot of goals.
Therefore, we expect at least one goal on each side. Nigeria’s matches usually see at least two goals, while Egypt’s goal ratio is closer to three.
Both teams are likely to advance from Group D. Their opponents, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau, are unlikely to qualify. Therefore, this match will decide the winner of the whole group. However, it is possible that the match will end amicably.
