Nigeria is in the semi-finals of AFCON! They beat the black horse of the tournament 1-0

Nigeria made it to the quarterfinals of the African Championship and advanced to the top four teams of the tournament after a 1-0 win. The tie was decided by a first half goal from winger Ademola Lookman. So one of the main favourites is still alive at the championship.

Angola were the first to threaten after a corner kick, but Mabullu’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper. On the other side, the mainstay Victor Osimhen was angry, but the Naples cannonballer headed just over the bar.

The Nigerian striker also finished with a header in the 24th minute. This time easily dealt with by goalkeeper Signori Antonio. Osimhen’s third header failed 12 minutes later as he missed the ball well and missed the space between the posts.

Only after that did his teammates speak up, and it worked. After a pass from Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman cleared the ball under the crossbar. So it was 1-0 to the booths after a dominant performance by Nigeria, with the favourites leading.

No goal after the change of sides and Nigeria moves on

After the change of sides, Nigerian winger Alex Iwobi fired, but missed Angola’s goal by a few yards. In the 59th minute, midfielder Calvin Bassey finished after a corner kick. But his header did not threaten the outsider’s goal.

On the other side, Zini could have equalised a minute later. But he unluckily sent the ball just inside the right post of the Nigerian goal. Nigeria then threatened through Simon and Zaidu, in the first case the shot was blocked by defenders, in the second the goalkeeper coped.

Angola also paid for the inaccurate finishing, Shaw’s attempt from the edge of the box was well over the opponent’s goal. In the 75th minute, Osimhen finally got his fourth header. But this time his joy was taken away by VAR due to offside.

Nigeria finished the game expertly, with the goalkeeper having an easy time with Zito Luvumba’s shot in the 89th minute. No more happened and the favourites only needed one goal to made it to the semifinals. They will play the better of Cape Verde vs South Africa.
