N’Golo Kanté is not missing in the French nomination. Why did Deschamps decide to reach out to Saudi Arabia?
On Thursday, the coach of the French national football team unveiled the final nomination for the upcoming European Championship in Germany. Surprisingly for some fans, it also includes the name of N’Gaul Kanté. However, the former Chelsea player can be a great asset to the team.
On Thursday, the coach of the French national football team unveiled the final nomination for the upcoming European Championship in Germany. Surprisingly for some fans, it also includes the name of N’Gaul Kanté. However, the former Chelsea player can be a great asset to the team.
Kanté moved to Saudi Arabia before this season, where he wears the Al Ittihad jersey in the top competition there. His team is still incomplete with three rounds to go and is in fifth place.
Kanté has 28 league games to his credit, during which he has scored two goals and five assists. The defensive midfielder is one of his team’s key players.
Kanté’s experience will help the rejuvenated team
The call-up of the defensive midfielder has divided the football public into two camps. One section thinks Kanté should have been ignored and definitely should not have been included in the final selection. The other, on the other hand, still believes that the thirty-three-year-old midfielder still has a place in the team.
France have nominated very talented players for the central midfield position, such as Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid, or Warren Zaire-Emery from PSG. However, these players do not have enough experience, so Deschamps had to supplement them with midfielders with a richer national team resume.
Will Deschamps bet on proven names?
In addition to Kanté, one of the traditional mainstays of Les Bleus is Adrien Rabiot, who despite his dull performances at Juventus will probably be one of the key players this season. Together with Kanté, they could form a nasty and tenacious midfield.
However, the problem may be creativity, which is not exactly the strong point of either of the aforementioned players. Antoine Griezmann, as usual, should take care of that. He should once again be given the role of a free-flowing offensive midfielder, which, as he has shown in more than one tournament, suits him very well.
Along with him, however, the presence of another conductor in the middle of the pitch will be needed, and this role could be filled perfectly by N’Golo Kanté.
The latter has two World Cup and European Championship appearances under his belt, and could give Deschamps’ rejuvenated squad enough peace of mind to kick on.
