Neymar’s best career match – The famous Remontada against PSG bears his name above all
Neymar is giving up on a European career. He has decided to go to Saudi Arabia, probably because no European giant wants him. Let’s recap his best game of his career.
Neymar is giving up on a European career. He has decided to go to Saudi Arabia, probably because no European giant wants him. Let’s recap his best game of his career.
Neymar came to Barcelona in 2013 with huge potential. Although he had only played in Brazil up until then, he was no rising starlet when he transferred, but a global superstar that the whole world wanted.
Neymar’s YouTube videos of tackles and goals were being devoured by every other child at the time, and giant things were expected of him in Catalonia. They came, but at the same time, it’s fair to say that one of the most technically gifted Brazilians could have done a little more.
Still, Barcelona fans certainly have a lot to remember. One game in particular, when Neymar did his best version. And that was in the Champions League semi-final against PSG.
The Blaugranas brought back a crazy result from Paris – 0:4. Perhaps no one except the players believed that Barcelona would be able to reverse the game in the rematch. And on that very day, Neymar gave the best performance of his career.
In the third minute, Luis Suárez opened the scoring and gave Barcelona hope. Then Neymar made his presence felt, pushing the ball into the middle and from a good 30 yards out, he fired his shot just past the back post. Just before half-time, Kurzawa scored an own goal to make it 2-0.
And in the second half, Neymar’s concert came. First, in the 50th minute, he converted a penalty, which was converted by Lionel Messi. But in the 62nd minute, PSG scored a goal and reduced it to 1: 3, so Barcelona had to score six goals.
It seemed all was lost, because in the 88th minute the score was still only 3:1 and the Blaugranas needed three more goals. Therefore, when Neymar scored a wonderful goal from a direct kick into the net, the Blaugranas players rather out of duty took the ball into the half, no sprinting back and roaring the stands like you do when you need one more goal.
I don’t think the players had much faith at that point either. But in the 91st minute, after a long ball into the box, Suárez was fouled, although there is still speculation about this foul. Neymar took the ball on the penalty spot and with his second goal gave Barcelona a huge hope.
But the Catalans needed one more goal. It was already the 95th minute, all Barcelona players, including ter Stegen, were piled in the penalty area, the centre bounced to Neymar who was standing in the middle of the half.
Instead of taking a headless centre into the box, he hacked his opponent, lifted his head and with a slight arc with his left foot, he flicked over the home defence, Sergi Roberto ran onto his pass and pushed it into the net.
The star Brazilian was thus the biggest contributor to Remontada’s famous goal, registering a 2+1 record and still winning a penalty. Unfortunately for him, he never added a better performance in his career. After all, when he moved to PSG afterwards, he described this game as the best of his career.
