Lionel Messi and Neymar are long-time acquaintances. They played together at Barcelona, and for the last two years at PSG. During the summer, both stars left Paris. The Brazilian magician has now spoken out about how his Argentine partner had it tough in France.
Two phenomenal footballers, two good friends. But their paths parted again this summer. While Lionel Messi made his way to the United States of America and shines at Inter Miami, Neymar has gone to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and is recovering from an injury.
Both left PSG under less than ideal circumstances. They were supposed to be the ones to carry the club to the coveted Champions League trophy, only it didn’t happen. Both have been under extreme pressure, Messi in particular has been a thorn in the side of many fans who have even booed and whistled at him in recent months.
The Argentine was not used to such things, it had never happened to him in his career. Overall, he did not have an easy time in Paris, as Neymar spoke about in an interview with Globo Espetacular.
Messi has had a contradictory year. He won the World Cup with Argentina, but then there was the aforementioned Paris. “I was happy for Leo, but sad at the same time. He lived on both sides of the coin. He reached the heavens with Argentina, he won everything with them, and he went through hell in Paris,” says the Brazilian.
“We both lived through hell. We are angry. We didn’t come to PSG for nothing. We wanted to make the team the best, to be champions, to make history. That’s why we started playing together again. That’s why we came together. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it,” Neymar let it be heard.
According to the Brazilian magician, above all, Messi did not deserve to leave Paris in the way it happened: “In my opinion, he was treated unfairly. He didn’t deserve it for all he did. But I am also happy that he won the World Cup, this time football was fair.”
Neymar also noted that he is happy that Messi is playing with a smile on his face. Besides, he excited Brazilian football fans when he hinted that he would love to return to Brazil one day and play for his former club Santos.
