Neymar didn’t heed Kylian Mbappe’s words after PSG’s loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday and went to play in a poker tournament instead.
Paris Saint-Germain, led by the star trio of Neymar – Mbappé – Messi, is having a tough time in the new year. After the team from the French capital crashed out of the domestic cup, they also lost in the first Champions League semi-final.
There, they fell short at home to Bayern Munich when Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute. It was the fifth defeat out of eleven competitive matches in the new year, which is not a good sign for the star team.
So the team’s biggest star Kylian Mbappé immediately sounded the alarm after the game and tried to motivate his teammates. “Our players need to be healthy for the rematch, everyone needs to eat and sleep well,” Mbappé said in interviews that evening.
Clearly taking nothing from his words was Brazilian star Neymar, who took the recovery after 90 minutes on the pitch in his stride. Immediately after the match, he rushed to the Hyatt Regency hotel in Paris to take part in the European Poker Tour.
Neymar has been a PokerStars partner since 2014, so it was assumed that he was merely fulfilling his sponsorship obligations.
However, the gambling company posted photos on its social media of the Brazilian forward right at the table and confirmed that he was competing in the Mystery Bounty tournament for €10,000 against professional poker players.
But fans of the Parisian club were intrigued by another photo from McDonald’s where he and his friends were eating burgers that evening. A visit to a poker tournament in view of possible sponsorship deals and a stop for a snack at McDonald’s is of course understandable.
However, the timing, given the Parisian team’s recent results, is really not very fortunate. So it’s no wonder that PSG fans are disillusioned by these images to say the least.
