Newcastle are in the Champions League! Leicester on the other hand close to relegation
Newcastle drew 0:0 with Leicester in the 37th round of the Premier League. Although the Magpies were more dangerous, the point is golden for them as it means promotion to the Champions League. On the other hand, Leicester must continue to fight for salvation.
Newcastle drew 0:0 with Leicester in the 37th round of the Premier League. Although the Magpies were more dangerous, the point is golden for them as it means qualification to the Champions League. On the other hand, Leicester must continue to fight for salvation.
Newcastle started very actively, but did not get into scoring positions. Leicester basically did not get into the attacking half of the pitch, facing a shot attempt only in the 18th minute when they fired over winger Miguel Almirón.
Four minutes later, Sean Longstaff tried his luck from outside the box, but Daniel Iversen made the save. Leicester started to make a statement after half an hour of play, but quick counter attacks were thwarted by a well-organised home defence.
The Foxes survived two chances in the 40th minute, Callum Wilson’s shot was knocked down by the bar after a goalkeeper’s error, and Wilfried Ndidi’s shot was cleared by the same player. And three minutes later it was similar. Almirón hit the post this time, and Alexander Isak headed over from the rebound.
Even after the change of sides, the home team was active, but Isak’s attempt was deflected by goalkeeper Iversen. In the 60th minute, the active Swedish player fired again, but Australian stopper Harry Souttar made a block.
In the 67th minute, Fabian Schar shot from outside the box, but he didn’t get a good shot off as it was well over.
And against Newcastle they played at the bar, in the 71st minute the right one stopped a header by Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes.
Az showed the visitors’ horns late in the game, Nick Pope flashed against Timothy Castagne’s shot in the second minute of stoppage time. After the goalless draw, Newcastle qualify for the Champions League, while Leicester may not even need a win in the last round to save themselves.
