New UFC king Strickland pearled after peaking at press conference: Adesanya as amateur, title as bullshit that doesn’t make him happy

The unexpected has become reality. Sean Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya and is the new UFC middleweight champion. Given his character and opinions, fans were looking forward to the post-fight press conference. They certainly weren’t disappointed as the American slugger really came through.

The UFC has a new king. The only title fight of the UFC 293 gala was surprisingly dominated by Sean Strickland, who defeated Israel Adesanya. The result is seen as one of the biggest surprises in title fights across the history of the organization.

The American was considered a big underdog, even the UFC didn’t want him to fight for the title. But not just because of the questioning of his qualities, but rather because of his life story, which has influenced his not-so-correct and positive views.

Strickland has been fighting his demons his whole life, MMA helps him tremendously. Still, his rough childhood left scars that have left a permanent mark on him. That’s why he’s a unique personality to watch.

He doesn’t mince words. You’d be hard pressed to find a more direct person. His comments at the post-tournament press conference when he made a joke about the organization’s head coach Dana White seemed to reflect that.

“He’s probably wondering how he let that retard get the belt,” Strickland let himself be heard saying. But would he be happy about the title? Not exactly.

“It was good, but I’m over it. I mean, what am I going to do at the end of the day? It’s in the past, it’s time to move on. What now? Do I go back to training, and everybody’s going to congratulate me and I’m going to thank them? This shit (pointing to the title) doesn’t make me happy. In fact, I don’t even know what makes me happy sometimes,” he added.

Strickland was asked on the sidelines if he thought Adesanya had underestimated him. In his opinion, yes: ” I feel like the guy didn’t even try. There were times when he just missed me with his punches and I wondered if I was fighting some poor amateur.”

The fact is, even White wasn’t thrilled with Adesanya’s performance. That’s part of why he wants to see a rematch. He thinks Adesanya didn’t have his day even though he praised the new champion’s performance.
