The endless summer break is over and league football has returned to the Islands. In the very first game of the season, Soucek’s West Ham faced Newcastle United and the Czech international scored a goal.
Tomas Soucek, who has been wearing the Hammers jersey since July last year, has started this year’s Premier League campaign in style.
Already last season, the Havlíčkův Brod native became the darling of the home fans not only thanks to his great fighting spirit but also his great eye for goal.
And he showed it in the opening game of the season against Newcastle United. It must be added that the goal he scored came rather like a blind man to a violin.
In the 63rd minute, the visitors got the advantage in the form of a penalty kick, which was taken by striker Michail Antonio. However, he squandered his chance to get on the scoresheet.
Unfortunately for the home fans, the ball bounced straight into the Czech international’s stride after an intervention by new goalkeeper Woodman. He made no mistake from a 100% scoring position and sent his team into a one-goal lead.
West Ham then increased their lead thanks to the aforementioned Antonio to the final 4:2 and will take all three points to London in their opening league game.
The Hammers will be hoping to spend the majority of the season in a similar vein, as it is well known that they want to take their squad to Europe’s most prestigious cups.
And it is not just the form of midfielder Soucek that will be hugely important in the final question of overall positioning. Czech fans will also be hoping that the Premier League starlet maintains a similar form to last season.
