Manchester United suffered another devastating defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford by 0:3. The match sparked a storm of reaction and criticism, including a scathing statement from former Red Devils player Gary Neville.
- Tottenham dominated the game and won 3-0 at Old Trafford
- Neville described Manchester United’s performance as “absolutely disgusting”
- Manager Erik ten Hag has faced mounting pressure and criticism for the team’s lack of improvement
Tottenham dominated the game from the start and sealed their success with three goals that United left unanswered. Brennan Johnson scored as early as the third minute after a great cross from Micky van de Ven, laying the foundations for the away team’s triumph.
Tottenham pressed Manchester from the start and their situation was made worse by Bruno Fernandes, who was shown a red card for a foul on James Maddison shortly before the end of the first half.
Tottenham continued their dominance after Fernandes was sent off and Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added further goals after the break.
The 0:3 scoreline was still flattering for United, given the overall course of the match. Spurs deservedly took three points and Manchester United dropped into the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Neville’s anger at Manchester United
Neville as a former Manchester United captain and current Sky Sports football expert did not hesitate to harshly criticize the team’s performance. “What we saw was absolutely disgusting,” Neville said, adding that United were ridiculed by Tottenham.
“It’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen under Ten Hagem. And that’s saying something. It’s really bad,” Neville continued. “Today shocked me how low they have sunk,” he added.
Jamie Redknapp, another expert for Sky Sports, expressed concern for Ten Hag’s future. “I see performances these days that get managers sacked. I just don’t see how he can keep his job with performances like that,” Redknapp said. “Right now they are at rock bottom. I just don’t know where they can get to. They’re as bad as I’ve ever seen a United side.”
Despite all these problems, Ten Hag is trying to maintain his optimism. He said after the game that the team is still working on improving and that they need to stick to the plan. “We’re all in the same boat,” said Ten Hag.”We know it’s going to take a while, but we have a plan and we’re sticking to it.”
Let’s see if this Hag can turn this bad situation around and put United back on the winning track. However, the performance against Tottenham was one of the worst in recent years.
