Netherlands vs. Ukraine: Preview and betting tips
The Netherlands will enter the European Championship with a match against Ukraine, probably their biggest rival for the first place in the group. How will the Tulips fare at the big tournament after seven years?
The Netherlands will enter the European Championship with a match against Ukraine, probably their biggest rival for the first place in the group. How will the Tulips fare in the big tournament after seven years?
The Netherlands have played two games in preparation. First they drew with Scotland 2:2, then they played a weak Georgia in the dress rehearsal and won 3:0 to set themselves up for the big tournament.
Ukraine even managed three friendlies. They drew 1:1 with Bahrain, then beat Northern Ireland by the narrowest of margins (1:0) and on Monday they downed Cyprus by four goals (4:0).
Memphlis Depay has had a great season for Lyon, scoring 20 goals and 12 assists, and scoring three times in training. Stefan de Vrij and Wout Weghorst are also in good form.
On the Ukrainian side, Roman Yaremchuk was good, scoring twenty-one goals and assisting eight times for Ghent. Viktor Tsygankov had a hand in twenty-four goals (15+9) for Dynamo Kiev.
Both teams should have a full squad at their disposal, with only de Ligt uncertain whether he will be able to recover from a minor injury.
The Dutch go into the tournament with an excellent offense, having scored an average of 3 goals per game in Euro qualifying.
Ukraine, on the other hand, relies on a functional defense, getting no more than one goal each time in their last six games.
Given that both teams are offensively minded I think both teams will score.
