The Netherlands narrowly beat Ukraine 3-2 in their first match. They were the better team and seemed to be on course for a comfortable victory.
However, Ukraine scored two goals in four minutes and made the match more dramatic. The Oranjes shot the winner in the 85th minute with a great play by Dumfries.
Austria beat North Macedonia 3-1 to start the tournament. For a long time the score was tied 1:1, then Gregoritsch was able to score in the 78th minute and Arnautovic sealed the victory in the 89th minute.
The Dutch can rely on Memphis Depay in attack. He didn’t score in his first game of the championship, but he has shown that he can score goals all season. He scored 28 goals for Lyon of France this season.
Defender David Alaba has been performing consistently well for Austria. In the first game, he often ran forward to support the attack. He was instrumental in the second goal, when he centred the ball beautifully into the box and Gregoritsch finished the action with a goal.
Both teams managed to score three goals in the first game. Offensive football is expected from both sides, but the Netherlands should have the upper hand.
