The European Championship is almost over. There are only three games to go to decide the winner. The qualifiers are Spain, France, England and the Netherlands.
The last mentioned country played against Turkey on Saturday night and those who expected a clear-cut win for the Tulips were wrong. The latter had worked hard in the match and even lost.
But in the end they turned the game around and can celebrate a valuable promotion. At the last Euro, they finished in the eighth round, where they failed to beat the Czech Republic, which won 2:0 thanks to goals by Tomáš Holeš and Patrik Schick.
“We had to suffer today, but no game is easy in the tournament. The players gave everything, it was a really emotional game. They showed a lot of heart.
Sometimes we are criticized for that, that we are lacking unlike other nations. But the players showed it today after we were losing. Theyplayed well in the second half,” said Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman after the winning game .
“This is something really special for the whole nation. We are a small country and we are in the semifinals with England, France and Spain. We are really proud to be playing for the final, ” he added.
But neither England nor the Netherlands are favourites for the tournament. The second semi-final will see Spain take on France, and whoever wins, the fans will trust the winner of that duel to make the final.
