NBA Players of the Week: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Haliburton dominated the floor

In the Western Conference, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma Thunders was the best last week, averaging 33.5 points per game. In the Eastern Conference, Tyrese Haliburton dominated again, averaging a phenomenal 17.7 assists per game.

Oklahoma City’s top scorer the past two seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, led the Thunder to four straight wins. The 25-year-old averaged 33.5 points per game, 5.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists.

For the second season in a row, he has playfully surpassed the 30-point mark and it is really only a matter of time before he breaks away in a game and hits the magic 50 for the first time in his career. So far, his high is 44 points in a single game. This is the first time he has won this award in a season and the fourth time in his career.

Haliburton ruled the Eastern Conference

Indiana Pacers playmaker Tyrese Haliburton has led Indiana to three straight wins with his great performances. He averaged 25.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, but most of all he impressed with an amazing 17.7 assists per game. He also set the Indiana club record for assists in a single game during that period.

In the period under review, Haliburton managed to play two games in a row in which he recorded at least 20 points and 20 assists. He equaled the feat of legendary players John Stockton and Magic Johnson.

Moreover, in the winning game against the New York Knicks, he managed to challenge his teammates to score with 23 accurate passes. This set a new Indiana club record. For this feat in particular, he was awarded the Player of the Week award. It was the second time in his career and the first time in two years.

Tyrese Haliburton is the third player ever with back-to-back games of 20 PTS and 20 AST, joining John Stockton and Magic Johnson.
