Minnesota’s Edwards ruled the Western Conference
Anthony Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves to 4 wins this week. He averaged 31.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2 steals per game.
In the game against the Celtics alone, he scored a season-high 38 points on 15/25 shooting from the field. He has now scored 256 points in the opening 9 games of the season, a new high in Minnesota club history.
This award is the first of his career and the ninth Timberwolves player to be named Player of the Week.
The Eastern Conference was dominated by Philadelphia’s Embiid
Joel Embiid – last season’s MVP, also led the Philadelphia 76ers to 4 wins this week. He averaged 36.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5 assists per game.
He had 48 points and 11 rebounds in the win against the Wizards. And in the third quarter alone, he scored 29 points, the most in 76ers history in a single quarter.
In addition, Philadelphia’s 8-1 record since the start of the season is its best since the 2000-01 season, when it went all the way to the NBA Finals, where it lost to the Lakers.
Embiid won the award for the 12th time in his career and is the club’s second most successful player behind Hall of Fame member Allen Iverson, who has won the award 20 times.
