The French international recently posted a photograph on social media of him playing with his son. However, some ‘fans’ took this as an invitation to send truly disgusting messages to the AC Milan back.
Some of the posts were written by Napoli supporters, whereupon they spoke of how they “hope he and his son die”, while others also wrote that he should “end up like Gianluca Vialli”, who recently died of cancer.
Reactions from Rafael Leão or Pescara Calcio
Almost immediately, Portuguese AC Milan star Rafael Leão and Pescara Calcio defended their teammate on social media. A club that currently operates in Serie C.
“Unfortunately, social networks are a tool where everyone thinks they can say whatever they want. Don’t worry, brother, God is always with your family,” Leão wrote on his Twitter account.
As we wrote above, Pescara also commented on the situation. She tweeted the following.
“How can you wish death on a man and his son? Our solidarity with Theo Hernandez, another athlete who is subjected to shameful comments that have nothing to do with sport.
People are trying at all costs to find some excuse to avoid stigmatising this behaviour and to stir up hatred. And we don’t want to give you that space,” the club said in a statement.
AC Milan have met Napoli twice so far in the month of April, once in the Champions League quarter-finals and once in Serie A.
The Rossoneri dominated both duels (1: 0 and 4: 0), and especially in the league, it was quite a clear-cut match. The Champions League quarter-final replay is scheduled for Tuesday 18 April, with over 2 500 AC fans expected to visit the Naples stadium, according to the latest reports.
