The whole tennis world was waiting for Rafael Nadal’s decision whether he will play at Wimbledon. The recent winner of the French Open has been plagued by health problems, but at a press conference he revealed that he wants to play in London.
Rafael Nadal suffers from a chronic leg condition called Müller-Weiss syndrome. This degenerative disease causes a deformity of one of the bones in the middle part of the foot and brings him immense pain.
So, after returning from Paris, he had to undergo radiofrequency injections into the nerve, which aims to burn it slightly.
“The treatment in Barcelona had an immediate effect. I had some strange feelings, but somehow it reduced the pain. But it’s normal with treating a nerve like that, sometimes one part of my leg goes to sleep, sometimes another part,” Nadal explained at a press conference in Mallorca on Friday.
“In a way I’m happy, I haven’t limped for a week, which is progress. We have to wait and see how the injury develops. But I’ve had a week of training and I feel good,” he added on perhaps the most watched injury in the tennis world.
Everybody is asking: Will Nadal play at Wimbledon? The Spanish fighter hasn’t ruled it out.
“There is a possibility that I will play at Wimbledon. I’m going to London on Monday and if I go there, it’s because I want to play. We’ll see if my injury allows it, but I want to train for a week on the grass in England, play an exhibition in Hurlingham and we’ll see,” Nadal delighted his fans.
“El toro” trained last week at the Mallorca Country Club de Santa Ponça, a training centre that has Wimbledon conditions.
After the French Open, Nadal underwent treatment on his leg and did not start any matches. The Spanish tennis player has dominated Wimbledon twice, in 2008 and 2010.
