Nadal surpassed Lendl in number of wins. How did he react to this?
It is of course very difficult to compare the performances of tennis players in different periods. This sport, like others, is dynamically evolving and each player is influenced in his performance by his current competition. Nevertheless, historical statistics are very popular. And in one of them, Rafael Nadal won a valuable scalp on his return to the ATP circuit. His reaction to this achievement was quite surprising.

The icing on the cake
Rafael Nadal is of course happy to be back on the ATP circuit. He enjoys returning to places where he has always felt comfortable. The main thing, of course, is that he is healthy and able to play at a solid level.
The fact that he managed his first match after a year off is a nice bonus. In his post-match interview, he highlighted the importance of the break at the end of the first set. In the second set, the Spanish tennis player clearly dominated the Austrian Thiem.
At the Brisbane tournament he moved into the top 16 tennis players. And quite possibly one of the co-favourites. The tournament continues with the number one Holger Rune or the Bulgarian Dimitrov. The latter not only won his first match against Murray in three sets.
The icing on the cake for Nadal is the fact that his win on Tuesday bears the serial number 1069. The Spaniard thus surpassed Ivan Lendl in the victory statistics.
What does Nadal say?
The native of Mallorca was confronted with this statistic in an interview. His reaction to this fact was surprising for many.
The 37-year-old tennis player admitted that he did not know about the proximity of this milestone. If nothing else, this fact at least did not add to his nervousness.
Who has more wins?
Nadal is in fourth position in the career wins statistics. Only one active player remains above him.
Yes, it is Novak Djokovic. The current tennis number one currently has twenty more wins than the Spaniard.
The loss of this duo to the very top of the imaginary peloton counts almost two hundred wins. In the silver position we find Roger Federer with 1251 wins. The leader Jimmy Connors left the court as a winner 1274 times.
Finally
Novak Djokovic let it be known that he wants to surpass everything he can. This statistic will take some more time, but it will definitely come in handy as motivation for the Serb.
And Rafael Nadal is not too far behind. At the very least, it’s clear now that he knows about the challenge too.
