My son won’t go to Manchester or Munich because of bad weather, explains De Jong’s father’s bizarre reason

Barcelona’s great financial crisis may culminate in the sale of the most precious commodity the Catalans have. That includes Frenkie de Jong, the 24-year-old Dutch midfielder. But he doesn’t exactly want to leave sunny Spain.
A beautiful city, a sunny climate, weather that doesn’t drop 15 degrees all year, the sea just a few kilometres from the stadium. This is the city of Barcelona and even footballers look at the standard of living when choosing an engagement.
When Frenkie De Jong transferred from Ajax, he was one of the biggest talents in the world. So it was logical that he chose Barcelona, which was one of the best clubs in the world at the time. But, as you can see, his selection had other intentions.
Because this season, with Barcelona’s crisis, he is often criticized for his performances and his name appears on the list of those that the Catalans could sacrifice to get some funds. And De Jong’s father is sure his son would have no shortage of offers.
“We have been approached by five big European clubs, ” John de Jong, Frenkie’s father, told the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. But a move to Manchester United or Bayern Mncihvo is unlikely.
“There is often bad weather. Of course it’s about football, but it also matters. We know very well that Barcelona need money and a good offer for Frenkie could help. But I don’t think that will happen anytime soon,” says the Barcelona midfielder’s father.
While in previous seasons de Jong was always praised or had a protective hand over him in case of a drop in form, this year that is no longer the case. Together with ter Stegen, they were among the players who kept a steady form, but this year the performances of both have dropped a lot and they are often criticised a lot in Spain.
De Jong, however, remains in the starting lineup, has started 19 competitive games, scored 1 goal and notched 2 assists. Barcelona is eighth in La Liga and 18 points behind leaders Real Madrid. In addition, the Catalans are out of the Champions League and will face Napoli in the Europa League playoffs.
