Andy Murray will play again in Brisbane
A few weeks of tennis fasting and the ATP carousel is ready to start again. And it will start as usual in Australia. After five years, Brisbane returns to the tennis map.
Two former champions will also play in the Queensland capital. In 2017, Bulgaria’s Dimitrov was unbeatable here. In 2013, the Briton Murray even defended his triumph from the previous year.
Murray is one of the oldest players on the ATP rankings, but he certainly doesn’t lack the desire to win. He has made his determination to lift the trophy above his head again clear here.
Other favourites
However, the event in Australia’s third largest city has attracted other interesting names. Denmark’s Rune and the American Shelton will be among the top players in the ATP rankings.
Rune, after a successful first half of the year, went through a slump in results, to which he responded by recruiting Boris Becker to his team. And it paid off. From October onwards, the Danish tennis player started winning again and finally managed to qualify for the Tournament of Champions.
The American Shelton is considered one of the biggest promises of the next season. And he will definitely want to start the season better than this year. He has won only one of his opening three matches at the start of 2023, and had a solid showing at the Australian Open.
Nadal’s comeback
The Brisbane tennis tournament gained in attractiveness in early December. In fact, Rafael Nadal announced that he will begin his return to the courts here.
The added bonus is that, thanks to his year-long absence, he will start as an unseeded player and will have the power to face anyone in the first round. Maybe Murray.
