Bayern can rejoice. Joshua Kimmich has decided to become a club legend and has signed a new long-term contract. This puts an end to all the speculation that linked him with a move abroad.
Joshua Kimmich is a Stuttgart alumnus, he also went through RB Leipzig, but since 2015 he has been a Bayern player, where he has developed into one of the club’s main faces and the best players in the world.
And he will stay in Bavaria for a few more years. Although he has been linked with a move away in the past, it is now clear that he will go down as a club legend. He has signed a contract until 2025.
Kimmich himself has considered a possible departure in the past, even making demands to play in the centre of midfield. Primarily. Not marginally. And the demands have been met, but the German footballer has backed them up with excellent performances.
Beyond his great footballing skills, however, the still only 26-year-old all-rounder stands out for his leadership skills and great character, making him an important part of the Bayern cabin.
Kimmich has already played 264 competitive games for Bayern. He has enjoyed six league titles with the club, three German Cup victories and one Champions League win.
“The main reason I extended my contract with Bayern is so that I can pursue my passion every day. I have a team with which I can achieve everything. A lot of my teammates have become real friends. I believe that the club and I are not at the end of our development. There is still a lot we can do and my family and I feel at home here,” Kimmich said after signing the contract.
Bayern are taking Kimmich’s stay as a clear signal to other big clubs. It certainly doesn’t want to sell its best players, nor does it want them to leave when their contracts expire.
“Joshua Kimmich will continue to develop his potential and make Bayern history. He is a world-class footballer with an outstanding mentality. He is the personification not only of a professional footballer, but also of the man who characterises Bayern,” said the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
