Muchova’s mission in Madrid has successfully started!
Karolína Muchová is trying to return to her former position after a not so good year in 2022. And most fans will remember that those were pretty flattering positions. For three years, the Czech tennis player was on the verge of the second and third ten. Will the tournament in Madrid help her make a comeback?

In terms of this year, the native of Olomouc has a lot to build on. She has competed in six WTA events, always making it past the first round and in three cases finding a victor in the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal in Indian Wells is definitely the most valuable, where she was stopped by world number seven Elena Rybakina.
The 26-year-old Czech overcame the first round hurdle in both of her previous appearances on Madrid clay and entered today’s duel against Anett Kontaveit as the favourite.
Her Estonian opponent is also going through a difficult period, which has been affected by back problems. The positive 2-0 record for Muchova also spoke in her favour.
Today’s match
Both tennis players gave each other their serves as a welcome gift. The Czech could not rely too much on the length of her shots, on the other hand she had a solid support in her serve compared to her opponent and her shortening game was a feast for the eyes.
It was the latter weapon that helped her to a substantial break to 3::2. After that, the Estonian couldn’t find an effective game and Karolina Muchova went on to win 6::2.
In those moments, Kontaveit was a shadow of the Kontaveit who walked to the title in Ostrava in 2021. She carried the lull into the second set, which the Czech used to break.
Although the Estonian tennis player improved afterwards, she pulled the shorter side of the rope when serving our player. When Muchová’s first serve came out, the point was practically decided.
In the second set she scored four aces and went on to win 6-2, 6-2. In the second round, she will face Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, who is currently ranked 35th in the WTA rankings.
