Moyes didn’t make any substitutions against Tottenham, West Ham fans joke
Two goals in the first 20 minutes fulfilled the expectation that there would be a lot of goals in West Ham’s London derby with Tottenham. But from that point on, both teams’ goal scorers struggled, so how do Hammers fans view the 1-1 draw?
Two goals in the first 20 minutes fulfilled the expectation that there would be a lot of goals in West Ham’s London derby with Tottenham. From that point on, however, both teams’ goal scorers struggled. So how do Hammers fans view the 1-1 draw and the coach Moyes?
A second home game in four days is not to be lost, especially with the Hammers results in the past games. West Ham lost 3-4 to Newcastle on Saturday, despite leading 3-1 at the break and finishing the game against a red carded opponent.
With no substitutions
While the other managers rotated the line-up in a busy schedule, David Moyes relied on the strongest eleven and left it on the pitch in its complete composition until the end. Tottenham’s pressure was mounting and the Scottish manager didn’t want to risk the substitute not catching the pace.
“They held up well. We don’t have anyone on the bench so Moyes couldn’t make changes. Luckily he didn’t go into defence. It finally worked out for him,” wrote fan Graham in a liked comment under the Hammers’ Facebook post.
Moyes had four youngsters on the bench, with Maxwell Cornet and Danny Ings in the offensive line. These are English league certified players. But they have not performed well in the long term this season and Moyes doesn’t trust them.
I’d rather nobody but you, Moyes!
A special chapter then is Kalvin Phillips, who has been making one mistake after another since his loan spell from Manchester City began. There are jokes circulating on social media that Moyes wanted to make a substitution. But seeing him on the bench, he preferred to finish the game with what he had on the pitch.
“Great game to watch, the defence looked like a clenched sphincter at the end! We didn’t get substituted and we didn’t collapse. Good decision, Moyes,” fan Chris supported the manager’s decision.
Alongside Moyes’ non-replacement, Michail Antonio’s name has been thrown around a lot. The English striker burnt a big chance in the second half, confirming speculation that the Hammers should be looking for a new striker. Antonio has undoubtedly done his job, but it’s time to move on.
