Moyes after West Ham defeat: I’m embarrassed to sit here and speak on behalf of this team. The first half was as bad as I’ve ever seen us play
This is a game West Ham fans will never forget. Their team was ripe for the towel against Crystal Palace and was down 0-4 after half an hour of play. In the end, they scored twice and it was a 2-5 debacle. Coach Moyes was thoroughly pissed off after the game and admitted that he may have never seen a worse performance from his team.
This is a game West Ham fans will never forget. Their team was ripe for the towel against Crystal Palace and after half an hour of play they were down 0:4. In the end, they scored twice and it was a 2-5 debacle. Coach Moyes was really upset after the game and admitted that he may never have seen a worse performance from his team.
West Ham were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday and did not improve their taste for the weekend. They fell at home to Fulham in the last round and even a trip to Crystal Palace didn’t bring points.
The Eagles took an early lead and by the 31st minute were 4-0 up. It was going to be a big embarrassment and the game ended 5-2. The home side came close to salvation.
The visitors, on the other hand, are moving further away from the European cups, as ninth-placed Chelsea are still a point behind, but also have three games in hand. And it would be a surprise if they didn’t make it through either of them.
“I’m embarrassed to sit here and speak on behalf of this team. But I’m the coach… The first half was unacceptable. I’m not going to look for any excuses. The players were praised for their performance against Bayer Leverkusen. But today it was so bad that I can’t put it into words,” said coach Moyes after the game.
“I’m terribly disappointed for the fans who came out today. I have to say in my whole career I haven’t had many teams play like that. The first half was as bad as I’ve ever seen us play. We’ve had three or four games like that this season where I didn’t believe what I was seeing,” he added.
His future at the Isles is also being discussed, with fans wondering if his end at the club is certain after this game. But the experienced coach denies that.
“No, it has nothing to do with that. If my future is out of my hands, fine, no problem,” explained Moyes, who had already replaced Tomáš Souček at half-time.
