Lando Norris confirmed in recent hours that he is currently moving to Monaco. In an interview with Autosport, he mentions why he has avoided the move for so long and also reveals what the main reason is.
The main motivation in this case is quite clear – money. It should be noted, the young Briton has long resisted joining the other drivers and has so far lived near the McLaren factory located in Woking. But now he is joining a number of other drivers.
As we all know, Monaco is paradise. A tax haven first and foremost, which makes it a perfectly obvious financial advantage.
As well as Monaco’s Charles Leclerc, there are other Formula 1 drivers living in Monaco, including Norris’ stablemate – Daniel Ricciardo. In addition to these two drivers, we can also meet Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
“For me and my career, it has been much more beneficial to always be close to the McLaren factory and to be able to start whenever I wanted. Whenever I had a bad weekend, I could just go to the simulator on any day to try something out, talk to my engineers and so on. And I love England. It’s still probably my favourite place,” Norris said in an interview with Autosport.
“My family is there, my friends are there. I think I’ve said many times that for me the fun and enjoyment of what I do simply takes precedence in making decisions like this,” he added.
“I just feel like I’m in a comfortable enough situation at the moment to make that decision and take the time to move there. I can still see a lot of my friends and my family will come to see me. Many things will remain the same. I’m just moving to a different place,” explains the McLaren driver.
He concludes by saying that he has to take care of his future. He also says he will understand if some people take it badly and criticise his decision.
But the fact remains that Monaco is home to a truly large group of athletes, and not just from the Formula 1 scene. So Norris is one of many others who made this decision.
