José Mourinho never loses his sense of humour and uniqueness. A few days ago, Antonio Cassano lashed out at the Portuguese coach, and the AS Roma coach hit back after advancing to the Europa League semi-finals.

He has never been shy to say what he thinks. What’s on his mind is on his tongue, that’s always been true of Antonio Cassano. He had a great talent from God, but unfortunately his head was absolutely not in sync and that is mainly why his career did not reach the heights that were expected.

After his career ended, however, Cassano is even more outspoken and even more strident in his opinions. Now he has no employer and whoever he criticizes will suffer no consequences.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport last week, he took a rather sharp swipe at José Mourinho, whom he has criticised in the past.

“I’ll explain it as I see it. I don’t let myself be influenced by names, I’ve never got into anyone’s arse,” Cassano began.

“Mourinho has to understand that as long as his teams play so badly, there will always be at least one person who will tell him:: me. Has he won that much? I don’t give a damn. It’s the same for him as it is for Allegri. With the great players they have, they play obscene football. They’ve got trophies in the trophy cabinet, so what? If their teams are playing shit…. Then I will say it and I won’t hide,” the former footballer told the Italian newspaper pointedly.

“He often makes excuses that his team is not good enough. That’s his favourite excuse to put the blame on others. Some newspaper editors and TV commentators feed him this lie. But AS Roma has the third highest budget in Italy after Inter and Juventus. The strongest player on the market was Dybala and they got him. And then Matic and Wijnaldum, they met all his demands,” Cassano added.

He also questioned his possible return to Real Madrid. “If Madrid want a serious coach, they won’t call Mourinho. He doesn’t like to work and talk to others,” the former Italian footballer added.

Mourinho left those words unanswered, but he waited for his answer, and in style. On Thursday, AS Roma advanced to the semifinals of the Europa League and the “Special One” enjoyed his progress.

The Sky Sports TV presenter told Mourinho in a post-match interview that they had several champions in the studio who had some questions for him. “So Cassano is not there?”
