Mourinho in action again! In Serie A, he has the same record he holds in the Premier League
While his Tottenham engagement didn’t go as expected, it could be a different story with AS Roma. The Wolves have thrived under Mourinho’s guidance so far, and the Portuguese coach has already managed to get another record since his return to Italy.
While his Tottenham engagement didn’t go as expected, it could be a different story with AS Roma. The Wolves have thrived under Mourinho’s guidance so far, and the Portuguese coach has already managed to earn another record since his return to Italy – the same one he already earned in the Premier League.
The two seemed to have a less than ideal relationship. However, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is playing in good form under Jose Mourinho, which he confirmed with a goal and an assist against Empoli at the weekend.
He made a significant contribution to his side’s 2-0 win, which meant that AS Roma managed another home game. For Jose, it was his 42nd home game in Serie A without defeat. The successful coach, who has been collecting records regularly in his career, added another one to his collection.
This impressive streak started back in 2008, when Mourinho was still in charge of Inter Milan. After his return to Italy, he built on it seamlessly. He has yet to lose a point at home this season. I mean, he did, but in the derby against Lazio, AS was officially run as the away team.
Mourinho thus surpassed Massimiliano Allegri, whose Juventus did not lose 41 games in a row at their home stadium between 2015 and 2017.
To hold such a record in one of Europe’s top 5 leagues is certainly admirable – José Mourinho is, after all, The Special One and the king of home unbeatens is also in the Premier League.
In the top English league, he set this record with Chelsea during his first stint with the Blues in 2004-2007. During his entire engagement, he never knew the bitterness of defeat in league matches. He extended this streak during his 2nd stint at Chelsea in the 13/14 season. In total, it was an impressive 78 matches.
Mourinho has thrived on his teams’ home grounds throughout his career. From 2002, when he was at Porto, to 2011, when he was in charge of Real Madrid, he did not lose 150 domestic league games in the boardroom. The hard-to-believe streak only ended with a 1-0 loss to Sporting Gijon at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Recently, more and more people have doubted Mourinho’s ability, but the Portuguese coach clearly still has something to offer. So far, the Italian league seems to suit him, and his team is one of the favourites for the first edition of the Europa Conference.
If Jose lifts any trophy above his head after the season, he will once again shut the mouths of all his critics.
